In the 1920's and 1930's there were approximately 25,000 acres of apple orchards in the area which resulted in Troy being a major shipping point for local fruit growers. At courthouse square you can see the 27 foot high Tall Oak Indian monument sculpted by the artist Peter Toth, along with others given to each state in the United States, from a 250-year old Burr Oak tree to raise the nations awareness of the plight of the American Indian.
