About the area |
Kinsley lies at exactly the midpoint between San Francisco and New York. The town was founded by settlers from Massachusetts around 1873. Prior to 1910 an Edwards County resident fascinated by the fact that people would ride a horse to town and pay a nickel to ride a wooden horse bought a carousel and built one of the largest family carnivals in the nation. The National Foundation for Carnival Heritage Center celebrates this event. The center houses a carousel where the animals were designed by children from Kansas. The All Veterans Memorial is a tribute to the men and women who have served our nation and is located in the parking area near the VFW Post on Highway 50. On the site are a M60A3 tank which is a fully tracked and heavily armored close combat tank.
