Court hearings are held at City Hall. You do not have look very far for US 160 in Longton, it goes right through town. |
| About the area |
If you were here in 1870 you might have been one of the founders of Longton. It was originally named Elk Rapids but was renamed after a village in England, by the owner of the first hardware store in Longton, to avoid confusion with nearby Elk Falls & Elk City. Discovery of an oil field here around 1902 led to a short period of prosperity for the town. The Longton Free Fair held every summer offers the usual rural fair events; but there are exhibits of kids' projects and a rodeo and as always plenty of food. The Ozark Jamboree held on Thursday evenings features amateur singing and performances in Brighton Hall.
