SR 14 (Douglas avenue) and SR 156 cut through Ellsworth and meet SR 140 in the Northern part of town.
About the area
When word came that the the Kansas Pacific Railroad would establish their western terminal near Fort Ellsworth, speculators flocked to the area to trade in real estate and make their fortunes. In addition cattle drovers brought many people and livestock to Ellsworth via the Ellsworth Trail, adding significantly to the early development of the city. Unfortunately the city could not remain at its original location because of the severe flooding which forced the city to move upstream a few miles to its present site. Ellsworth Cowtown Days are held in August. In addition to the many things taking place at this event there are various reeactments such as the camping of the Buffalo Soldiers and the Shootin' of Sheriff Whitney. As always there is lots of good live music and food.
