| About the area |
Cimarron is located just above the Arkansa river. As the 1870's waned and the 1880's arrived the need for a lot large enough to support a family's need for a barn for their horse and milk cow, a chicken house, and a garden plot caused the city to spread out. The Santa Fe trail, used by wagons to carry goods, crossed the Arkansa river at a point South of the present city and joined the Cimarron river 50 miles away; leading to the naming of the area South of the city to be the Cimarron Crossing.
Through the efforts of one of the city's residents, the city purchased a piece of land in the area to establish the Cimarron Crossing park.
