Like other cities in Kansas, Mission was a stopping point for covered wagons on the way west via the Santa Fe Trail particularly because of the clear blue water in free-flowing springs of the area. The city grew becoming the first suburb as Kansas City became a metropolis. The suburb was sub-divided into approximatelty lots and offered by the for sale by the family which first laid claim to the land. Busines did not take hold immediatelty in the area but as 1928 arrived there were five businesses; a drug store, restaurant, hardware and dry goods store, a barber shop, and a cleaning and pressing establishment.
