About the area

A Delaware Indian, Chief Tonganoxie gave his name to the town, as chosen by the woman settler who bought 40 acres from the Union Pacific railroad around 1866 and layed out the town. You may not come from Tonganoxie, but that should not stop you from attending and enjoying the annual local Chamber of Commerce sponsored Tonganoxie days which take place the second weekend in June. A 10K and 5K run and walk start off the festivities and there are plenty of craft vendors, bands and other live entertainment. By all means go see who wins the BBQ Contest and eat some of the stuff.
