If you can believe it; John Quincy Adams was the first postmaster of the town when a post office opened just North of it around 1854. It was not until the year 1882 that the Blue Mound Town company was organized and commissioned a survey of the town. At that time 2 buildings were moved to the town providing the foundation fpr its growth. Rapid growth followed with the addition of general stores, a hardware store, furniture store, blacksmith shop, drug store, harness shop and lumber yard. The building of two railroads into town and the opening of the coal beds of southeastern Kansas established the city as a shipping point for coal and the manufactured mineral products of the area. |
