There are several old and interesting buildings in Marion; dating from 1872 to 1907 and constructed of native stone. Among these are the Presbyterian Church, listed on the state Historic Register; the Hill School Building, oldest building in this state in continuous educational use: the Elgin Building, which was originally a 42 room hotel and the "Marion County Courthouse, constructed in Romanewque revival style with a clock tower. Three of these buildings, the Hill School building, the Elgin building and the courthouse are listed on the National Historic Register.
