| About the area |
Late in the year of 1872, a widow woman from Indiana drove two prairie schooners with her large family of nine children to this area. She was attracted by the free land and when she discovered that the area was free of rocks and trees and was level, just right for farming, she decided to stay and settle down. She declared "My, what a pretty prairie!" and that was the name for the stage stop which her home had become. The Civic Theater in addition to showing movies, presents live entertainment. It is also the home of Spring Film and Fall Film series. In July the rodeo comes to town for its annual visit. |
