About the area |
The founder of the town for whom it was named started with a land grant he received after serving in the U.S. Army in the Civil War. First living in a tent like other setlers in the area he donated part of his land for other uses including a city park; he built his house. Around 1885 the town was surveyed and laid out just in time for the arrival of the Santa Fe railroad which contributed to the development of the town. The city is still there and a wonderful place to relax. You might even catch a concert played at the stone bandshell which contains stones from all the states. The park also has curving brick paths, and a small canal crossed by two footbridges; just right for a relaxing stroll.
