About the area
The Stanton County Museum displays exhibits representing the history of Stanton County and transportation history and is housed in nine buildings seven of which are historic buildings including Johnson's original Santa Fe depot, 1887 jail cell and 1930s exhibit. The main building of the museum complex is built of native stone and was originally constructed as a shop for the road department by the WPA in the 1930's. One of the buildings is an old general store another a decommissioned Santa Fe caboose repainted inside and set up to replicate a train crew's working and living quarters. The museum also sponsors the annual Pioneer Day celebration which is held each year on the last Saturday in July.
