About the area |
Hanover was founded by an immigrant from the German State of Hanover around 1869. he established his Cottonwood Ranch just east of Hanover. This became a stopping place for immigrant wagons, stage coaches and Pony Express riders traveling along the Oregon-California and Pony Express Trails. The Hollenberg Pony Express Station, which preceded the founding of the town by a few years, is listed as a State Historic Site. It remains unchanged and at its original location. There is a
visitor's center to the west of the station. Each August the Pony Express festival celebrates this part of our history and takes place at the Hollenberg Station with a lots of music and living history demonstrations.
