Serving Plaquemines as its parish seat, this humble community in the Orleans metro area has an average elevation of less than 10 feet above sea level. Situated along the Mississippi River, this unincorporated village under the area code 504 was named "Pointe à la Hache" after a French derivation for "cape of the axe". Settled in the 19th century, this small but proud territory is one of the brave survivors of the Hurricane Katrina sharing frontiers with Magnolia and Davant. |
