Named for an Indian tribe, this community serving as Saint Landry parish seat is elevated less than 70 feet above sea level. Father of Jim Bowie and Clifton Chenier, this land incorporated in the 1820s is framed by Washington, Leonville, Port Barre, Grand Coteau, Sunset, Church Point, Cankton, and Arnaudville.
