About the area
A bit north of Boston and just north of Andover, Lawrence is located on the Merrimack River. The mill town started by making cloth that they shipped out to other countries. The area is known for the Great Stone Dam that is there. The Dam is where townspeople received their water for the mills. Great old houses are in the area because of the mill managers. Each manager owned a large house. Today the main industry is still textiles. The area makes shoes and clothing. There are over 72,000 residents. Lawrence is on the north side of a river that runs to Newburyport. Lawrence Airport and Lake Cochichewick are nearby.
