The Caribou County Superior Court is the Caribou branch of the Aroostok County Superior Court and is located in the same building as the Caribou District court.
About the area
In the early 1800's, a Navy captain having triumphed over Barbary Pirates was deeded some 10,000 acres as a reward. This area which makes up the southeastern section of what is now Caribou saw settlers arriving from New Brunswick in the 1820's. When peace returned after the the undeclared Aroostook War between the United States and Canada; in the 1840's european settlers arrived in droves. With the coming of the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad in the 1890s, the shipment of agricultural products grew producing a boom period. In the 1990's the city suffered the closure of a nearby Air Force Base and the decline of its potato business. However, Caribou's population has stabilized and grown slightly since then.
