About the area
Caribou, a city of a little over 8,000 population spread out over approximately 80 square miles, lies along the Aroostook river and around the Caribou Mill pond and Caribou stream. Caribou High School is lucky to have an 800 seat Performing Arts center which is used by the High School's drama students but also also serves as the scene of large musical acts. The Nylander Museum originally housed the collections of a self-taught naturalist from Oremolla, Skifvarps, Sweden for whom the museum was named. Besides his collection of fossils and mineral specimens the museum has grown to include flora, fauna, and the mollusca of Aroostook County, Maine and the nearby areas in Canada. Caribou Municipal airport is tucked into the Northeast corner of the city and is publically owned. It has two runways, one about 4,000 feet in length, the second about 3000 feet in length.
