| About the area |
Millinocket is characterized by several area features that surround it. The Millinocket stream splits the city in two. Hillcrest Golf club lies in the Northern part of the city, Millinocket Municipal airport is situated at the Southeastern edge of the city, the large Millinocket lake to the North and Ferguson lake is just to the Southwest. The golf club is a semi-private 18 hole course situated on a hill overlooking the city. The airport is operated by the Town of Millinocket. The city was the beneficiary of the great depression effort to create jobs; the airport having been built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930's. It has two runways over 4000 feet in length. If you fly into it in winter, better replace the wheels with skis; the runways are not plowed and it is open only Monday through Friday during this time. The lakes hold plenty of landlocked salmon, lake trout and large perch. Great opportunities to catch brook trout, lake trout, whitefish, pickerel and cusk. |
