The city of Skowhegan is split into North and South by the Kennebec river. US Hways 2 and 201 and SR's 104 150 support the city; which is probably why many of the Traffic violators appear on these roads. |

About the area |
Skowhegan was first settled in the last part of the 18th century. It has since become the home of several modern businesses including the New Balance Shoe company. Those of you remember Senator Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman U.S. Senator will be interested to know that this city was her home. Skowhegan has dedicated the Margaret Chase Smith Library to her wherein are housed the Senatorâs memorabilia. Her life and career are commemorated in the museum housed in this facility and by its educational center. Celebrate the Kennebec River with residents at this cityâs Riverfest in late June. A full weekend of fun for the family with free raft trips down the river, food vendors, musical entertainment and an expo of recreation-focused businesses and organizations. |
