About the area |
This is the place to find blueberries, with the majority of the world's blueberry crop harvested in the area. The significance of this crop is celebrated each August by the Machias Wild Blueberry Festival. The festival features the Main Street parade, fabulous food, crafts and fine art by regional artists, live music, and activities for the children. What would this festival be without its Blueberry Pancake Breakfast. In addition to the Blueberry Farm Tours there is the opportunity for hungry revelers to eat at the Fish Fry.In a nod to the railroads contribution to the areaâs history; the old Machias Station known as Station 98 and listed on the National Registry of Historic Sites is being restored |
