About the area

The Machias river runs from the Northeast corner of town and on to Machiasport. This city incorporated since the 1790's is the locale for a Liberaal Arts branch of the University of Maine. Each June the city celebrates the First Naval Battle of the American Revolution with the Margaretta Days festival at the Machias branch of the University of Maine. The college is where the Downriver Theatre Company presents its summer productions running from late June and into early July.
