About the area
The fertile soil suitable for the growth of oats, wheat and corn and naturally abundant wild foods, such as deer, fish, rabbits, turkey, and different kinds of nuts and berries attracted early settlers to the area. If you came here around 1827 you would have been among the early settlers. Settlement to what is now Cassville took place around 1830. The county improved the "Old Wire Road," which followed the first telegraph line, and was the beginning of Cassville’s Main Street. During part of the Civil War, Cassville served as the Confederate Capital of Missouri. The City of Cassville aquatic park has large water slides, a lap pool with diving board, zero depth entry pool and a kiddie pool. The Barry County museum has several different exhibits related to the area and the Black Schoolhouse which was moved to the site and renovated. The classroom appears as it did when the schoolhouse was first built.
