About the area |
Golden City got its start around 1866 when the Butterfield Stagecoach Line made it a stop on its route. Nearby Golden Grove was so named because the early settlers attributed the diggings in the area to Spanish Conquistadors mining for gold. The name in part then carried over to the city. For those wanting to get a glimpse of what the Great Prairie was like; a visit to the preserved Golden Prairie, the Cook Meadow and the Pennsylvania Prairie just a few miles out of town would be satisfying |
