| About the area |
Around 1887, when the the construction of the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul railroad was proceeding through Southern Caldwell county; a landowner in this area, for whom the town was named, donated his land to be used as the right-of-way for the railroad. The railroad also provided a connection with the Hannibal, St. Joseph and Wabash Railroad at Chillicothe and Breckenridge. After two depots burned down, a third was built which lasted until the Milwaukee Road went bankrupt around 1980. Most of the wooden buildings which were the original Main street burned to the ground, but a second Main street was built, changing direction. Braymer is stilled served by the Soo railroad whose trains pass through daily. The Braymer Saddle club holds its annual horse show at the arena in Tait park. This show features rodeo style events such as team roping, breakaway roping, calf roping and goat tying as well as the usual horse show events.
