The Trail of Tears State Park is where nine Cherokee Indian groups being relocated to Oklahoma crossed the Mississippi River during harsh winter conditions in 1838 and 1839. At the visitors center you can fid the story of this migration and the tragedies which befell the group. The park also has shaded picnic sites, hiking and horse trails, fish spots on both the Mississippi River and Lake Boutin and majestic views of the Mississippi River. There is a great opportunity here for viewing migratory waterfowl. |
