In this city you have an opportunity to hop aboard a 1920's era passenger coach, or an open-air excursion car and take a ride behind the 1950's diesel locomotive of the Belton, Grandview and Kansas City Railroad company through Old Towne Belton. If you've been good the engineer might even invite you to ride beside him in the cab of the locomotive. The yards around the station of this short line are sort of an open air museum of railroad equipment with freight cars, a Club Car, instruction car, maintenance-of-way equipment and two static display steam locomotives. The building which in its history was a city auditorium, a place to play basketball, a movie house, a manufacturer of children's clothing, a library, housed city hall offices, the police department and fire department headquarters is now the Belton Missouri museum. Exhibits in the museum are dedicated to Harry Truman, Dale Carnegie and Carry Nation in addition to which there are exhibits which rotated on a quarterly basis.
