El Dorado Springs was founded in 1881 around the mineral springs where it is believed the Osage Indians brought their sick to be healed. Even today there are are request from around the world for the waters from the springs. The economy here consists of the growing of corn, soybeans, milo and wheat and cattle raising of such breeds as Angus, Limousin and Polled Hereford. In addition to the civic center and Virginia Ryan Strain municipal pool , the city has only three parks. The park in the downtown business district has the spring around which the town was founded that still flows in the park and a gazebo. This park is the site of an annual founder's day picnic each year in July. The park adjacent to the Lucien Carter I Ball Park has lighted outdoor basketball courts, picnic tables and playground equipment. The park is at Carman and Main is equipped with a backstop, walking trail, a shelter house, picnic tables, barbeque grills and playground equipment.
