In the 1940's, Holt was unfortunate enough to experience a record rainfall of 12 inches in 42 minutes, a world record. At Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site you can see a reconstructed 1840s adobe fur trading post like those that existed on the mountain branch of the Santa Fe Trail. At posts like these traders, trappers, travelers, and the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes came together for trade. The sights, sounds, and smells of the past are recreated with guided tours, demonstrations and special events.
