About the area

Many of the Victorian homes in Plattsburg remain in the condition they were in when they were first built. A stroll along Clay avenue, Birch avenue, Broadway, Riley street or Maple street will provide a glimpse of these magnificent homes. One of these, the Riley-Carmack house, built around 1889 is now the home of the Clinton County museum. The furnishings and exhibits in the museum reflect the typical upper middle class life of a family living in this area at that time. There are Chautauqua programs and banners, military uniforms, furniture, art prints, publications, toys, clothing and other historic artifacts and displays. You will find a vintage sewing machine and vintage dresses displayed and a parlor as it originally appeared.
