| About the area |
Union was established by the donation of over 70 acres by three farmers who owned the land. Early settlers to the area came from the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Virginia to establish farms. Around 1882 businessmen fro Union and Washington formed a company and built a telephone line connecting the two towns. Around 1887 track was laid through Union for the St. Louis-Kansas City and Colorado Railroad and early in the 20th century the first successful factory in Union was opened. The city's parks have pavilions, shelters, baseball fields, softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and a City lake.
