The city's annual Possum Trot Days festival is held in August. The events held in this festival are a Spaghetti Dinner, a parade, Diaper Derby, Toddler Race, Turtle Race, Inflatable Games for Kids, Beard Contest, Stick Horse Races, Possum Trot Dance Contest, Raffles of some great prizes and live music. As the story goes this festival all started when possums were all over the town and the town fathers decided to offer a bounty on each possum to the citizen who caught the most possums and brought them to city hall by a certain time on a certain night. The hunters, did not want to reveal their catch, so at the last minute, they made a mad dash to city hall carrying their possums, thus the Possum Trot.
