New Franklin was once the division point with roundhouse & turntable for the Missouri-Kansas-Texas railroad. The turntable remains and is still in excellent working condition along with another remnant of the railroad, the fully restored caboose #127 filled with railroad memorabilia & artifacts. The The 1819 Thomas Hickman House, circa 1819, is a historical Missouri treasure located at the University of Missouri Horticulture and Agroforestry Research Center in this city. The house is representative of the southern "Georgian" cottage design and is on the National Register of Historic Places. The one and a half-story house is constructed of hand-made brick and built on a stone foundation. The house has been fully restored and furnished with items items typical of its period.
