West Plains Municipal Court

There are lots of good roads in this city of close to 12,000 people; US 63, US 63 Bypass, US 160 and SR 17.

The "Courthouse Square" Historic District in Downtown West Plains, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is where most of the buildings were built in the 40 years after the arrival of the railroad around 1885. One of these is the West Plains Opera House which now is the scene of weddings, receptions, concerts and the performing arts. There are two murals on the square created by a local artist. One of them is a series of 12 images depicting successive time periods from the uninhabited state to the arrival of American Indians, the first settlers through the Civil War and into the 20th century. The second mural called "Country Cookin," depicts the rich musical heritage of the Ozarks. as well as country music legend Porter Wagoner and baseball star Preacher Roe. The Annual Old Time Music, Ozark Heritage Festival is held each June in this city. At the festival you can hear musicians and storytellers and see the works of artisans from throughout the state. The music performed is old time music with its distinctive sound. There are many recreational facilities in this city including its parks, the Winter Sports Complex for indoor sports, an outdoor sports complex, an aquatic center and walking trails.
