About the area |
With an abundance of cool, clean water from a spring of the Little Blue River, the city named Blue Springs became a stopover for pioneers on a westward journey. The need to supply the pioneers led to the establishment of a grist mill and coupled with the supply of water, the town. Around 1878, the Chicago and Alton Railroad began to build a station about one mile East of the original settlement, prompting the town to move its center to the site of the new station insuring the city's place as a rural trading center. The city continued its growth so that today its population numbers over 52,000. Centennial Pool Plex is the cityâs year-round aquatic facility which is comprised of three pools: a 6 lane 25 yard indoor pool with a diving area and 1 meter diving board, an 8 lane 50 meter outdoor pool with a set of high-speed water slides and an outdoor wading pool with a sloped "beach-style" entry, water-spraying toys, and "rocking" jet skis for small swimmers. |
