| About the area |
When Oronogo was a mining town in the early 1900's, “The Circle” was formed resulting from the blasting out of a group of smaller mines to create one large mine. This formed what was thought to be the largest open pit lead and zinc mine in the world. Around 1950 mining in this pit stopped and natural springs and rainwater filled it. It is now a lake, Blue Water lake, with clear water, unique underwater terrain, and depths close to 230 feet which bring divers from all over the midwest.
