There actually was a Byrnes Mill in this town owned by a pioneer and his father, who emigrated from Ireland, and later had added to it a farm and a summer resort by successive members of the family. Much of the property remained in the family until around 2008. A good part of the land including the site of the mill is now owned by the City of Byrnes Mill and is now in Byrnes Mill City park. The Charles Hagemeister House was originally a small log cabin, circa 1871, which was added to by the German immigrant who built it in order to accommodate his growing family.
