Settlers came to the area of this city as early as 1790, but the city was not founded until around 1860. It was incorporated around 1910 and then finally as a city around 1953. At the end of September be at Pevely park for the city's annual bonfire and movie night led off by a DJ. IN addition to the park where this event is held, the city has Joe Whaley Park with swings and open area, Stacey Reece Park with walking trail equipment, Ellis Bage Park with a pavilion, playground and basketball court and in addition for a yearly fee residents can use the Teamsters Health and Medical Camp where they enjoy the facilities
for sports, recreation and just relaxation including a swimming pool.
