The red brick Lincoln school, located in Martin Park, opened at the beginning of the 1880's. It was established to provide education to African-American children in Canton and the surrounding area; however it was closed when all children began attending the public school in the 1950's. The Miller-Starr Opera House, was built in the first half of the 1890's and was located Lewis Street. In the 1800's and early 1900's traveling stage performances came to this theater. Falling into disrepair after closing in the 1980's; the building was renovated by the Canton Area Arts Council. It now serves primarily as a movie theater but also presents comedy acts, plays, and special events throughout the year.
