About the area |
The first settlers came to this area around 1919. The railroad depot consisted of a boxcar across the street from the rails and the railroad was the only means of mail or supplies being brought into the area. There were five stores in town, a barber shop, a hotel, a post office, a blacksmith shop and two church buildings and the area was surrounded by woods. There were many acres of timberland much of which was owned by a land company and many who lived in the area were employed in timber cutting. In the 1920's the town grew rapidly. The town was incorporated around 1944.
