Sedalia Circuit Court is the circuit court of Pettis County in the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit of the Missouri Circuit court system. Hearings for city ordinance and traffic violations in the cities of Houstonia (SR K) and Hughesville (SR H) are held in the Associate Division of this court.
About the area
The Daum Museum of Contemporary Art exhibits displays of its vast collections of ceramics, mixed media, print, paintings, drawings, photography and sculpture. Sedalia's historic Katy Depot was built in Romanesque Revival Style to serve as a stop on the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad which began its operations in Sedalia around 1873. The depot, however, was not completed until 23 years later and the railroad stopped its operation here in the late 1950's. In the 1980's the Missouri Department of Natural Resources took over the building as part of the Katy Trail State park and the tracks have been replaced by a walking and biking trail. The concept of presenting the railroad influence on the history of the city and region is represented by exhibits consisting of graphic panels, exhibit cases, an audio visual presentation room and two motion-censored cast characters; as well as the "Rag Tag Train" whimsical metal train, "Step Up Caboose", and "Syncopated Rhythm Piano" sculptures. The latter celebrates the ragtime heritage of Sedalia.
