Newburg Municipal Court

SR T is the main road running through Newburg and is its Main street.

Newburg is located along the banks of the Little Piney river and like most of the towns in this Ozark area boasts of beautiful scenery surrounding it. Newburg was created from the ground up by the the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad along the railroad line in the 1880's. There were erly settler to the area in the 1820's. Within a year the population was close to 400. The Newburg Children's Museum is located in an annex to the Houston House. On the first floor you can see natural history exhibits of rocks of Missouri, fossils through the ages, underwater scenes, seaweed, corals, sponges, primitive crabs, and mollusc shells from the Caribbean and South Africa. On the second floor there is a functioning trading store, the conservation room with exhibits of animal and bird and insect activities, the sky room with an interactive planetarium, photos from the Hubble telescope, replicas of the sun and planets designed to size, as well as the phases of the moon. The Houston House, built around 1883, itself now serves as a community center. The Lyric Live theater, which is in the National Registry of Historic Places, presents several productions a year including drama, comedy and variety shows to which it invites guest entertainers. THe theater was built around 1919 by a physician from Mackinaw, Illinois, who married a Newburg resident and moved to the city and also was the owner of a local pharmacy.
