About the area
Two attractions in town serve as reminders of the city's long association with the railroad; first as the terminus of the St. Louis and San Francisco railroad and then of the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad which now runs through town. Frisco Engine 1501 also known as the 1501 "Blue Bonnet Special" is located in Schuman park and the Frisco 1501 Caboose, in which you can see U.S. Route 66 Train memorabilia, is also located in the City's Downtown Festival park. A few miles South of Rolla, on US 63; Lane Springs has scenic hiking trails, pavilions, grills, picnic tables, a swimming area and camp sites. The Audubon Trails Nature center is a reserve committed to habitat restoration and preservation. There are earthen trails are for foot traffic, with benches along the way at scenic locations and concrete trail which connects to the parking lot is wheelchair accessible. The city has quite a few parks, something like around 25, some which are undeveloped but the gem of them all is Ber Juan park. This park has among its facilities tennis courts, a SplashZone, a playground, picnic area, a skate park, a multi-field baseball, softball, and soccer complex and add to this the a walking and exercise trail which runs through most of the Park and has outdoor fitness equipment along the trail.
