Bolivar Municipal Court

SR 13, SR 13 Bypass, SR 32 and SR 83 run through Bolivar.

In the beginning, settlement of the area was from Bolivar, Tennessee. When the location for the county seat was decided upon, three brothers submitted the name of the location of their grandfather in Tennessee. Although Bolivar has existed as a city from around 1835; it became a fourth-class city forty six years later. Southwest Baptist University, located in this city, is is a liberal arts, co-educational university whose academic program includes a School of Graduate Studies. The Bolivar Area Community Concert association's concerts are presented in Pike Auditorium at this school. The Ella Carothers Dunnegan Gallery of Art in Bolivar is where you can see the Dunnegan and Wainscott art collections. For the recreational pleasure of its residents Bolivar maintains a municipal swimming pool and three parks; Dunnegan Memorial, Girl Scout and Newhart where there is a statue of Simon Bolivar. Fitting since the city from which this city was named took its name from this South American war hero. Dunnegan Memorial park has pavilions, rest rooms, picnic tables, playground equipment and a small lake where you will probably see ducks, geese and peacocks
