About the area

Huntsville was settled in the 1820's and in the 1830's visitors to this city described it as having a brick courthouse and seven stores. The first people to settle in Huntsville came from Virginia, North Carolina, Kentucky and Tennessee. The chain of approximately 85 neighborhood hardware stores located in the Midwest known as Westlake Hardware was started in Huntsville shortly after the beginning of the 20th century.
