About the area |
When Missouri became a state around 1821; the county began a long process of locating a permanent seat of government. Accepting a tract of land owned by three early settlers, the county court established the city of Richmond as the county seat which was approved by the voters in the Summer of 1827. Soon after a public auction of lots was held. Guess if you like Morel mushrooms you would know that there are a large amount of these mushrooms in the area leading to Richmond being called the Mushroom Capital of the World. The Ray County Museum has loads of artifacts dating back to the early 1800's.
