About the area
As far back as the 1540's Spanish explorers were the first to enter the Cottleville area. Both Spain and France claimed the area but in the 1650's Louis XIV of France directed that a large area, including Cottleville, be explored. The territory, including Cottleville, remained under French control until acquired by the United States around 1803 as part of the Louisiana Purchase. During the 1850's and 1860's, a prominent landowner laid out two subdivisions to the town and the town prospered. Legacy Park includes dog parks and a multi-purpose amphitheater for concerts, bingo night and movie night. The park will soon have a softball and baseball field, soccer field and football field as well as shelters for shade from the Summer's heat.
