About the area |
A Canadian, living in Illinois at the time, received one of the initial Spanish land grants in this area in the 1770's. He and his wife settled in the area and had eight children. One of their sons owned most of the land which is now Breckenridge Hills. Subsequently, the land was officially granted by the U.S. Government to the son. The Breckenridge home was built on this land and remains standing to this day. The settler for whom the city was named moved to this area from Kentucky with his family around 1821. |
