About the area |
When the gentleman, for whom the city is named, deeded a strip of land to the North Missouri Railroad in the 1850's the railroad agreed to build a depot on his land and make it a regular stop. Activity soon centered around the depot and he subdivided his land and sold lots to businesses and homeowners. As 1894 began, the town had reached a large enough size leading to incorporation as a Fourth Class city. The Sports complex at Forestwood park covers over 20 acres in which are situated softball fields, a baseball field, soccer fields, tennis courts, a basketball court, handball courts, a multi-use trail, full-service concession stands, a batting cage, playground and pavilions all of which are illuminated. |
