About the area
At the time of the Civil War the area of Sunset Hills was inhabited by the Scotch-Irish and English from Kentucky and the Germans who replaced the French-Canadian who settled here among the Indians. Older settlements in the 1770's were on Spanish Grants of land. The Claire Gempp Davidson Memorial Conservation Area, approximately 14 acres in size, is a natural resource area in the Northeast area of the city. The City of Sunset Hills has five athletic fields located in two separate locations. In addition to the conservation area and the athletic fields the city has 3 parks. Watson Trail park has a 9 hole disc golf course, tennis courts, a basketball court, a swimming pool, a sand volleyball court, playgrounds and picnic shelters. Lynstone Park has a playground, picnic shelter, basketball court and soccer field. Minnie Ha Ha Park is equipped with walking trails, playgrounds, picnic shelters, soccer fields and a scenic overlook of the Meramec River.
